Yakso Seitan
Seitan is made from wheat. It is therefore rich in protein and - unlike meat - contains no cholesterol at all and a very low fat percentage. It originates from Eastern macrobiotic cuisine and is increasingly used in a healthy diet with less or no meat. Its versatility as well as the fact that its structure is very similar to that of meat makes seitan very attractive in all kinds of recipes.
‘Bjorn Andringa: We make our Yakso Seitan according to a traditional recipe. This gives it a tasty, firm structure. It is also enormously rich in vegetable proteins. This makes it a tasty and nutritious alternative to meat. Very tasty in a curry, spaghetti, burrito or wrap. And finely chopped, you can also substitute it well for minced meat.’
Yakso Tofu
Tofu is a low-calorie and high-protein soy-based meat substitute. Tofu has a soft texture by itself. If you fry tofu briefly, you get a nice crispy outside and a soft inside. The taste of tofu is quite neutral. This makes it very suitable for marinating and you can use it for all kinds of dishes. Tofu absorbs flavours very well. Tip: very tasty with vegetarian (Asian) dishes.
Yakso Tempeh
Tempeh is made from fermented soybeans. It is high in fibre, easily digestible and contains many good nutrients. It also contains high levels of iron, calcium and magnesium. So it is an extremely nutritious product! Tempeh is very suitable for marinating and is slightly firmer in terms of ‘bite’ than tofu.
‘Bjorn Andringa: when fried, tempeh quickly gets a crispy exterior. In addition, the flavour is slightly nutty, so you can make a fine burger out of it, for example!’
Yakso Jackfruit
Jackfruit is an exotic fruit and a source of fibre, starch, vitamins B6 and C and potassium.
The fruit is highly appreciated as a meat substitute because of its texture. It looks a lot like pulled pork or pulled chicken. In addition, the flesh absorbs flavour very well, making it great for seasoning!
‘With growing attention from the market, we are able to introduce more and more consumers to our alternatives. From Yakso, we offer a unique range of products made according to traditional methods and recipes in Wolvega. Based on passion, idealism and the realisation that current intensive agriculture is no longer sustainable. We also notice that our customers care about the world. And this is reflected in the increasing demand for our meat substitutes, which fit into a sustainable diet, says Ilse Reitsma (Brand Manager, FZ Organic Food)’.
